Sports Podiatrist in Long Beach, CA

A foot or ankle injury shouldn’t sideline you longer than it has to. At Kim Holistic Foot & Ankle Center, our podiatrists treat the sprains, strains, and overuse injuries that keep athletes and active people off their feet — and, just as importantly, build a plan to get you back to your sport safely instead of re-injured. Whether you run, play a court or field sport, hike, or simply stay active in Long Beach, an accurate diagnosis is the first step toward a real recovery.

Sports Foot & Ankle Injuries We Treat

Most athletic foot and ankle problems fall into a handful of categories. Common ones we see include:

  • Ankle sprains and instability. The most common sports injury of all — and one that is often under-treated, leading to a “trick ankle” that keeps giving way. See our ankle pain treatment page.
  • Achilles tendon pain. Tightness or pain at the back of the heel that flares with running and jumping. More on our Achilles tendonitis page.
  • Plantar fasciitis and heel pain. Sharp first-step heel pain that limits training. See plantar fasciitis treatment.
  • Stress fractures. Small cracks in a bone from repetitive impact — they need rest and a proper diagnosis, because training through one can make it worse.
  • Turf toe and other joint sprains from pushing off or planting hard.
  • Tendonitis and forefoot pain, including pain in the ball of the foot.
  • Blisters, nail injuries, and skin problems that come with heavy training.

How a Sports Podiatrist Helps You Recover

Rest alone often isn’t enough — and returning too soon is how a minor injury becomes a chronic one. Our approach is straightforward:

  • An accurate diagnosis first, using an in-office exam and imaging when needed, so you know exactly what you’re dealing with.
  • Targeted conservative care — activity modification, bracing or taping, stretching and strengthening guidance, and custom orthotics when your foot mechanics are part of the problem.
  • A return-to-activity plan that phases you back in, so you rebuild without re-injury.
  • A clear referral path if an injury needs a procedure — handled by our Long Beach foot and ankle surgeon only when conservative care isn’t enough.

Every injury and every athlete is different, so recovery timelines vary. The goal is always the same: get you back to what you love doing, on a foundation that holds up.

When should I see a sports podiatrist instead of resting?

See a podiatrist if foot or ankle pain lasts more than a few days, keeps returning, or stops you from training normally. Rest helps minor tweaks, but pain that lingers can signal a sprain, tendon injury, or stress fracture that needs a proper diagnosis before you return to activity.

Can I keep training with a foot or ankle injury?

Have the injury checked before you push through it. Training on an unhealed sprain or a stress fracture is one of the most common ways a minor injury becomes a long-term one. A podiatrist can tell you what is safe to do and what to hold off on.

Do you treat runners and non-athletes too?

Yes. We treat anyone with an activity-related foot or ankle injury — competitive athletes, weekend runners, and active people of every level. The goal is the same: an accurate diagnosis and a safe return to what you enjoy.

Will I need surgery for a sports injury?

Usually not. The large majority of sports foot and ankle injuries improve with conservative care such as bracing, orthotics, and a structured recovery plan. Surgery is considered only when those measures don’t resolve the problem, and it’s discussed with you first.
