Deciding to add a simple walk to your daily routine is a great idea; however before you start that walk consider the surface you’re walking on! Most walkers prefer grass or packed dirt because the surface is soft, which gives great shock absorption for your feet and knees. Ideally, you want a surface that is smooth and soft. Pavement is a common choice, since it is everywhere and smooth, but it’s not the best choice! With the lack of shock absorption in pavement, most walkers who choose this surface will experience foot and leg problems.[1]
