Soreness and Injury are Different

Soreness is mild discomfort that usually lessens up after stretching or subsides after 1-3 days. Injury, however, is more intense and typically concentrated in one particular area of your body. By decreasing the pace or impact of your exercise, you can usually work through soreness. However, injury may require you to take time off from exercise and substitute that time with rest or medical treatment.*

You’ll typically experience soreness after trying out a new activity, or after a particularly intense workout. You’ll know that you’re injured when the pain lasts longer than 3 days, and when it worsens in the absence of treatment.
