Restless Leg Syndrome and Iron Deficiency

Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) can develop at any time and during any age. The symptoms are usually abnormal feelings in the calves, thighs, or feet that can be described as a burning, tingling, or crawling feeling. In children, it can be mistaken for growing pains. Some of the causes of RLS range from being hereditary, to pregnancy, and simply iron deficiency. Though RLS doesn’t lead to a serious condition, having an iron deficiency can cause the symptoms to worsen, which can lead to insomnia and daytime drowsiness.[1]

Go see your doctor if you think you have RLS. If you find out you have an iron deficiency, a simple iron supplement or just adding more iron to your diet could make a big difference!
