High Heels Can Cause Ingrown Toenails

High heels are more than just a little bit uncomfortable, they can also cause painful ingrown toenails. When toenails are squished together in a high heel, the big toenail can easily grow into the skin around the nail. This condition is known as onychocryptosis, and is commonly accompanied by swelling, redness, and sometimes even infection.*

Reduce your chances of getting an ingrown toenail by keeping your toes properly manicured and trimmed across the top. If you must wear high heels, try to only wear them to events where you will not be walking or standing for too long.
