What made you pursue podiatry as your field of medicine?

I started my interest in medicine when I was in college. There was a good biological science department at the school. I was always curious about how the human body works and why people get diseases.

I started as an engineering major. But it became very boring for me, so I decided to change.

A lot of my friends were in the medical field. Some were already in medical school, and I felt like I could probably succeed there.

Why podiatrist? At the time when I was deciding which field to go to, there was a shortage of foot doctors in the country. I felt it was a good option, and many years later I do not have any regrets about my chosen profession.

Why do you start working at KimFoot & Ankle Center?

My residency director was Dr. Kim’s classmate. Dr. Kim called me and invited me to his clinic. I remembered I spent half a day with him and patients. And about a week later he offered me a position. It's been 20 years already.

What made you interested in Holistic Medicine and becoming a Holistic Podiatrist?

Holistic podiatry methods help patients recover faster and avoid health problems in the future. Of course, in some cases, we need to use traditional medicine like antibiotics and cortisone shots or have to do surgeries. But we try to focus on natural treatments.

When I first met Dr. Kim, he had a Holistic Center already, so I was introduced to his holistic approach early in my career.

I realized that modern medicine focuses on treating symptoms. Holistic help by addressing the cause of your problem, and by creating an environment in which the body can heal itself. When I see my patients, I try to find out what they eat, what their lifestyle is, and what other health problems they have. It helps me understand a bigger picture. Our foot is attached to the body. And if the body is not healthy the foot is not healthy.

Our feet serve as the base for the body. When feet are in bad shape, it affects the back, hip, neck or knees.

What about your work do you enjoy?

My main interest was always in sports medicine. I do the majority of the surgical treatments for the office and see a large amount of Workers Comp cases a lot.

I think the unique thing about podiatry that patients get instant relief even after the first treatment. As in other professions, you will need a couple of weeks or even a couple months to see the results.
