Breaking in Different Material Shoes

Leather is the most common material used in making shoes that range in thickness from athletic shoes (thicker) to dress shoes (much thinner). Make sure you test the flexibility of the shoe material because if the shoe is too thick and inflexible, your joints will succumb to more pressure in order to move properly and it will also take longer to break them in. Here’s how to test the flexibility of your shoes: bend and twist them to make sure there is a bend at the ball of the foot and then poke the top of the shoe to make sure the heel rises off the floor to allow for the natural roll of your gait.[1]

Don’t risk injury and take just a few minutes to test out shoes before you buy them. Make sure they are comfortable, supportive, and flexible.
