Ankle sprains are one of the most common joint injuries, with more than 3 million occurring each year. Most people perceive ankle sprains to be non-serious, and consequently, they do not give themselves enough time and rest to rehabilitate. But the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons is trying to warn people that no sprain should be taken lightly. It’s estimated that 40% of people with ankle sprains deal with long-term issues because they never took the time and care to properly heal.*

When treating a sprained ankle, implement the RICE method (rest, ice, compression, elevation). Stay off of your ankle when swollen, take ibuprofen to minimize swelling, and see your doctor if there is no improvement in 6 weeks.
