Varicose Veins Can Cause Foot Numbness

Similar to the nerve entrapment associated with carpal tunnel syndrome, tarsal tunnel syndrome can be caused by a varicose vein near the instep of your ankle and can produce numbness. Enlarged veins around your ankle can cause your foot to feel weak and your toes to feel numb. Those who suffer from tarsal tunnel syndrome may also experience a tingling or burning sensation, or even shooting pain in the foot.*

If you experience numbness of your foot and toes, it’s possible that you have tarsal tunnel syndrome. In addition to varicose veins, flat feet, collapsed arches, diabetes and arthritis are all possible culprits of TTS. Be sure to visit your foot doctor and get tested to see what is causing your numbness and discuss treatment options.
