Studies have shown a correlation between gout and a diet high in fructose. Gout suffers are encouraged to avoid fructose; this can be difficult considering that in the typical American diet, high fructose corn syrup is added to many foods and drinks. Keep in mind that fruit, while healthy, contains fructose as well.*

If you want to avoid a diet that is high in fructose, limit your intake of store-bought baked goods, ice cream and candy. Try to opt for water over juices and soft drinks, and limit yourself to no more than two cups of fruit per day.
