Communal Yoga Mats Carry Risk

Communal Yoga Mats Carry Risk

You won’t feel too Zen after a yoga class if you end up catching a fungus or a virus from a communal mat. Viruses thrive in moist places such as yoga mats, and coming into contact with a virus could cause you to develop warts. While it is more common to develop warts on the bottoms of your feet, you could potentially develop warts on your torso or thighs, which tend to touch mats during a typical yoga class.*

Yoga mats cost on average $10-$25, so consider making an investment in your own. Whether you buy your own or borrow, be sure to disinfect before and after each class. You can make natural antibacterial wipes by dropping a few tablespoons of white vinegar and 5-10 drops of lemongrass essential oil onto a paper towel.
